Put in of the Month
Makena Landing, Maui
This put-in is a very protected landing with rocky points to the North and South. These provide protection from almost any swell direction.
The day I paddled here there were occassional sets of waves 4-6' high with a period of 15-18 seconds from the South. There were relatively calm times of 7-16 minutes in between the sets. Easy parking, showers and great auto access what more could a put-in be.
Easily accessible by rental car. Makena Landing offers great access to Turtletown USA. Snorkel here and you're almost certain to swim with turtles. Just to your left as you launch.
There's a great nude beach in between the 2 cinder cones you can see on your left in the background.
Molokini Crater is about 3 nautical miles almost due West. World class snorkeling here. Do your weather homework. On a recent trip in early May 2001 the trade winds blew too hard above 30 knots on 5 of the 7 days we were there.
Many thanks to Maria of Big Kahuna Adventures paddle@maui.net
She was very friendly and most helpful in getting the right kayak and her knowledge of the local put-in spots.

Disclaimer
These are put-ins that I have used, and maybe totally different when you are there, in other words, paddle at your own risk.
Always check weather and ocean conditions before you paddle!
